Barley Parish Council

Residents' only parking, playground upgrade...

I hope everyone is well and keeping warm during this cold period.

It is fantastic news that as part of the government’s levelling up agenda Lancashire County Council has been awarded £50m for an East Lancashire scheme; much of which will be spent in the Pendle area on public transport, walking and cycling. The funding will enable changes to local streets, paths and open spaces. Also, it’s great to see how well Burnley FC are doing, going 5pts clear at the top of the championship.

As many of you are aware the formal notices for the residents only parking scheme in the centre of the village have gone out in the village, to local newspapers, and to the affected residents. All affected residents should have a look at the posted notices and consider replying to the County Council by the 9th February at the latest.

One of our major projects this year will be the upgrade of our playground, which I know many of you will agree is very much needed. The swings are old and coming to the end of their life and we want to offer more attractions. We have invited four companies to meet with us and discuss options before submitting design and cost estimates.

We are now considering the designs and we are hoping to get advice from Pendle BC before finalising the details with a supplier by March. We are hoping to have the playground completed by the beginning of the summer in time for the school holidays.

Further projects will include a flag pole erected on the turning circle which will be used on ceremonial occasions such as the Remembrance Day service. This will further enhance this area as the centre piece of the village. The parish council is also looking at further upgrades to the toilet block, with new doors and flooring being planned in the coming months.

There have been fewer planning applications to consider over the last three months which is unusual, maybe this reflects the changing economic situation with higher prices and interest rates.

Finally, on behalf of Barley Parish Council, I would like to wish all the best for February.
