Roughlee Parish Council

Capital bids, BKV final, thefts, Seniors' Christmas Lunch...

Last month I reported that we had applied for capital grants from Pendle Borough Council and I am very pleased to confirm that we were successful with all of the bids that we made. A new gas tank for the village centre, perimeter fencing for the village centre (to keep people in) and planters for the corner opposite the bus shelter at Happy Valley. This is a bit of a project as the site needs weeding and hedges need cutting back before we can commence. Hopefully will have it sorted before the end of the year so that we will benefit from Spring bulbs. If any local businesses would like to sponsor the plants then please give me a shout to see how best we could benefit you for your donation.

Otherwise, it has been a quiet(ish) month re Parish Council business.

The other major good news this month is that we have made it through to the final round of judging in the BKV with one of our local Ribble valley neighbours Grindleton. The final round of judging should have taken place this week, so fingers and toes crossed for a win. Well done to all of the FORA team and the many individuals that have made the village look so good.

I am sad to report that this morning, Friday 25th at 6am ish, we have had intruders in the vicinity of properties at Dam Head where some items were stolen. The CCTV, including the village cameras, has captured a face and a white Suzuki car with reg details. Details have been passed to the police. So, please all be vigilant.

At last month’s meeting we started to make plans for our Seniors’ Christmas Lunch (yes I know it’s only August) which we will be open to all residents aged 65 or over on the date of the lunch. Given the historical costs to the parish council we had a lengthy discussion on how we should cover the costs for this event and after much debate we are proposing that we ask for a contribution to this 3 course meal with cake, mince pies, coffee and wine of £7.50 per head to residents of the village. This decision has not been taken lightly, but we hope that you will understand and still see it as excellent value for money and a good afternoon out.
