Forest of Bowland National Landscape

The Forest of Bowland’s Dark Skies Festival face to face events are mainly all booked up now, but we do have a couple of online sessions, plus a talk, which still have plenty of room available. All are free to attend, but booking is essential – via email, or by phone on 07973 923142.

  • HOW BIG IS SPACE?
    Sunday 11 February, 19:00 – 20:00

    Online

We all know that space is really, really big! But just how big…?

Join Preston and District Astronomical Society for this entertaining online talk about the vastness of the known universe and how we can try to understand it on a human scale. Prepare to be amazed!

Suitable for adults and children, although under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

  • SMART PHONE NIGHT SKY PHOTOGRAPHY
    Wednesday 14 February, 19:00 – 20:00

    Online

If you’ve ever tried to capture the ethereal beauty of the night sky on camera and wished you had a bit more know-how, this may be just the event for you.

Join Robert Ince for his popular online introduction to astrophotography using smartphones. Learn how to use your phone to capture the night skies, including the Milky Way, the moon and even aurora.

    Under 18s must be accompanied.

  • THE MOON AND YOUR SHADOWS
    Thursday 15 February, 19:00 – 20:00

    Newton-in-Bowland

Join us for something a little different: a Neolithic technique to find the exact time of the full Moon?

In the days just before it is full, the Moon can often be seen in the sky on sunny afternoons.

Enjoy an evening talk in Bowland as Dr Charles Lee, F.R.A.S. demonstrates how to predict – using your shadow – when the moon will be exactly full, and have fun seeing if you can work it out for yourself!

Suitable for adults and children 16 years or over. All under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
