Roughlee Parish Council
Holes, Grit, Grants & Panto...
January has been a quiet month on the Parish Council front (even without our normal monthly meeting) with only the hole on the village centre car park causing us any grief. We had a site meeting with PBC surveyors, engineers, legal people and immediate neighbours to try to bottom out responsibility and ownership. We had a very productive meeting with some very constructive suggestions on how to progress this and get the problem repaired. We are now waiting for quotes for the work to decide how best to progress this, but more importantly how it will be funded. So watch this spaces for updates.
Our next PC meeting will be at 7pm on Monday the 5th of February.
I had been hoping in this month’s edition to say that Spring was on its way and that some of the hundreds of bulbs that we planted last year had started to show, but the weather over the last few days appears to have put pay to this. They are appearing though if you know where to look. Please don’t blame me.
I have noticed a lot of comments on social media re the gritting (or not) of our roads over last few days, some suggesting that Pendle Borough Council should be doing better. For the record, it is Lancashire County Council that are responsible for this task and not PBC. We will be raising this with our our local LCC councillor at our next meeting and sharing some of your feelings. Regarding the road from Blacko Foot Farm up to Blacko, we had already raised this as an issue in December, as an accident waiting to happen – we will try again.
We are once again approaching the time of year where we can apply for funding from PBC for capital grants for projects that benefit the village and our community. If you have any ideas, please let me know.
Lastly and certainly not least I must mention Roughlee’s first ever Pantomime. Now I might be biased, but I’ve got to say that I didn’t think we could create and give so much fun and laughter to an audience in excess of 200 people over our three performances. Credit must massively go to all the people behind the very professional performances that took place. These include (in no particular order) the cast, the band, the stage design and stellar production team, make up, props and costume teams, front of house, sponsors of the event, catering and “our Jules”. Without her and the hard work that she has put in, getting us all into shape over many months, this would not have taken place and not been as successful as it was. So from me and the very many villagers who thoroughly enjoyed themselves. “Thank you all”. Till next time…?
