Roughlee Parish Council
Holes, Blacko Bar Road, School, Grants...
”Huzzah”, Spring has finally sprung (I hope). It’s been great to see and feel some warm sunshine, very little wind and for once no precipitation. Lambs have started appearing in the fields and the spring bulbs are thriving. It might not be too long before the grass needs cutting. It’s been another exceptionally quiet month in the village which is great, but it makes it very difficult to write this article, hence the rambling.
Highway barriers have once again appeared in the village around the damaged railings running along side of the river. These have been damaged in two separate incidents and we have been chasing LCC for these to be repaired. We have not as yet been informed of a repair date or of what impact the work will have on the flow of traffic – let’s hope that it’s a vastly quicker job than the wall repair last year.
Last month I reported that we had resolved the village centre car park hole with PBC and I am pleased to report that has now been repaired. The problem goes back to when the old mill was demolished in the 1960’s. There was a large culvert/chamber under the car park and the rubble used to backfill would appear to have not been sufficiently compacted so settlement has appeared over time.
The issues of the state of Blacko Bar Road in terms of gritting, flooding and the general poor state of the road have been raised with LCC and we will continually chase this until we see some action or improvement.
Traffic congestion around the school at drop off and pick up times raised its head again last week. We have already had some dialogue and discussion with the school about this and we will continue to monitor this over the coming weeks to see if any improvements can be made to alleviate some of the issues.
We are still looking for ideas for projects that enhance the village that could be suitable for capital grant status, so please shout out if you can think of any.
Our next Parish Council Meeting is on Monday 4th March at 7pm.
