Hello from Nick and Joy…

Well, it’s taken a while, but Joy and I are really glad to be able to announce we will be moving to Barrowford to join with you at the churches of St Thomas and St Mary as I become your new Vicar.

This move will mark significant changes for us. We have lived in North Yorkshire for nearly 30 years. Ripon was our home before we moved to Harrogate where I have served as Curate in St Robert’s Church Pannal and St Michael’s Church Beckwithshaw.

Barley Parish Council

Remembrance, Planning, Pubs, Northern Lights, Tour of Pendle race...

The Barley Remembrance Service will commence at 10.55am on Sunday 10 November at the memorial stone on the Turning Area. The service is always well attended and so it should be, all are welcome and refreshments will be served in the Chapel afterwards. The Council will be flying the Armed Forces Flag prior to the event and after the event flags will be taken down and stored until the spring.

Goldshaw Booth Parish Council

Halloween & Bonfire (2 Nov), Katherine Mann, Picnic Tables, Boskins, Apple Trees, Spenbrook Fencing, Environmental Sustainability...

By the time you read this, the Halloween celebrations will have taken place and we will have winners from the Pumpkin Patch and for the Houses of Halloween. Both these events have provided us with light hearted fun around the villages, as can be seen in the pictures.

Don’t forget the annual bonfire will be held in the village park on 2nd November. Lighting will take place at 6pm, and food and drinks will be available. It is a family friendly event with no fireworks. You are quite welcome to bring along sparklers if you want though.

Best Kept Village, Remembrance (11 Nov), Seniors' Christmas Lunch (5 Dec), Benches, Councillor Vacancy...

Congratulations must go to FORA and its extended team for coming runners up in the Best Kept Village competition. This placing is recognition for the massive contributions that you all make in keeping the village looking as splendid as it does. This achievement should not be underestimated given the linearity of the village and the long stretch that it covers. Well done to all.

What a busy start to the school year!

We started this year by tidying our school garden with the staff, parents and children. We would like to invite the local residents to help us to tend to our garden, as it is quite a task. The school garden is always accessible so if anybody has any spare time, we would greatly appreciate any help and we will even provide refreshments!

On 24th September, we held a really successful School Improvement Meeting. During this meeting, staff, parents and governors gathered to discuss the school’s many achievements and we brainstormed ideas on how we can …

  • 15th December, 5pm – Barley to Bethlehem from village car park
  • 22nd December, 6pm – Carols by Candlelight. Joint service with St Mary’s Newchurch.

Keeping East Lancashire in the Picture

‘KEEPING EAST LANCASHIRE in the Picture’ is a new two-year Lancashire Archives and Local History project that will make the wonderful collections of historic photographs in East Lancashire Libraries more accessible.

  • Barley WI – Wed 6th Nov, 7.30pm at Barley Village Hall – All about Cheese! A talk by the Courtyard Dairy – delicious regional cheese will also be for sale. New members always welcome. Barley WI also have two book clubs along with craft, gardening, walking theatre and dining clubs! So there is something for everyone.

  • Pendle Patchers – Tues 12th & 26th Nov, from 1pm at Barley Village Hall – The Patchwork group were delighted that Audrey Weatherill joined us at a recent meeting and brought proof that she has been very busy since we last saw her. Audrey founded the group many years ago and continues to be an inspiration to the rest of us, although some of us realise our talents will never equal hers. We would welcome any quilters or knitters who would like to join us, please don’t feel you have to be as accomplished as Audrey to join our group.
