In May 2024 residents from the Pendleside villages came together at the Community Climate Change Action Day in Barrowford to consider how to effectively tackle the climate emergency. Barley, Goldshaw Booth and Roughlee Parish Councils recognise the urgency of this work and are committed to helping residents take actions to improve environmental sustainability and lower our collective carbon footprint, as individuals and as a community.
This survey has been designed to increase the Parish Councils’ understanding about the views of residents on climate change and to explore which carbon reduction initiatives residents are supportive of. The results will be available for all residents to …
[ READ MORE → ]Janus is the Roman god of January as the guardian of the door or gate. The two heads facing in opposite directions remind us to look back as well as forward. Christianity has a long history and the basis of our worship are the Bible and the 1662 services. Our own church of St. Mary’s, celebrating its 500th birthday in 2044, encompasses old traditions and those newly introduced e.g. the Narthex for food and fellowship. Those who have ben coming to this church for decades can look back with fond memories but also look forward with those who have come more recently.

This is a project completed with PC and VH funding and I hope you agree that it makes a good contribution to the Xmas decorations offering in Barley village.
We have also added a Santa & Sleigh on top of the bus shelter and the Women’s Institute have done a great job of bringing festive lighting to the garden on the car park. …
[ READ MORE → ]It’s so good to see the community coming together in so many ways over both December and all of 2024. I’m sure we would all want to offer up a big thank you to all those involved throughout this year and in particular this month in the set up and switch on of the lights, the visit of Santa, the provision of the food, drink and tombola in the church and the arranging and distributing of biscuits to our senior residents.
I’m sure that everyone will agree that the decorations in each of the villages look magnificent. Santa was kept very busy …

I am guessing that whilst reading this month’s edition, that you will be either feeling sorry for yourself due to over indulgence in the last few days, glad it’s all over or not looking forwards to returning to work in the the near future.
During December we hosted our annual Seniors’ Christmas Lunch which I believe from the comments received was a success. My thanks must go out to the extended team (Shoppers, Table Dressers, Servers, Pot Washers and the after party Cleaning Team) and of course you for attending.
Please be reassured that whilst the Bay Horse is currently …

As always, the Village Centre Committee and its group of volunteers were very busy in 2024 with some rip-roaring successes during the year. Cinderella got us off with a blast and from there we went from strength to strength.
The Beer, Gin & Music festival was as usual very well attended with record receipts recorded and this year’s event will take place from 30th May until June 1 for your diary. This year’s profits combined with our Derian House Childrens Hospice Day enabled the RVCC to donate £5,000 to Derian House. We also held …

If you have any neighbours or friends that have just moved to the area, or who might not be aware of this newsletter, please can you mention Parish News to them. We’re now on 800+ email subscribers across Barley, Goldshaw Booth and Roughlee so are definitely reaching the majority of households, but it’s an ongoing job to let people know when there’s no longer a physical copy being delivered and not everyone will see the adverts on noticeboards.
