Gardening, Best Kept Village, Meet your Councillors and SPID...
After the last couple of cold months, and as the snowdrops are now out, we are starting to think about gardening and the Best Kept Village competition.
We are currently in the process of getting quotes for the maintenance of the village for gardening, mowing and looking after the Public Rights of Way (PROW). A lot of work has been done on assembling a volunteer workforce, and this will help greatly in limiting our expenditure. Village maintenance forms a large proportion of our costs, and in order to ensure that we have sufficient funds, we decided in January to apply a small rise to the precept, which will result in an average of about £10 additional cost per household per year.
We are planning to again submit 2 entries into the Best Kept Village competition, with one for Newchurch/Spenbrook and the other for Sabden Fold.
As the church has started its popular Sunday afternoon Tea & Cakes events again, we will ensure that there is at least 1 parish councillor there. We are always available for you to raise any concerns, but hope that this will give you a better opportunity to get to know us.
You may have noticed that we have had the SPID device back on Spenbrook Road, and we have agreed a new rota with the other Parish Councils that utilise it, so expect to see it back again in about 4 months time.
Please note that March’s Parish Council meeting will be held on the second Monday in the month as usual i.e. 10th March at 7pm in St Mary’s Church, whereas to avoid meeting in holy week, the April meeting will be held on the 7th April.
