Roughlee Parish Council

Litter pickers, sink hole, Parish Gathering (12 May)...

The better weather and longer days have certainly put a spring into my step – long may it continue (the weather that is, not my springs). I have noticed that our band of unsung heroes are still in force with our volunteer litter pickers out and about trying to keep our village clean and tidy. Thank you to you all for doing this, it is very much appreciated.

Our “sink hole” seems to have caused a lot of comment during the month with unannounced road closures causing some inconvenience. These are totally outside the remit of the Parish Council and managed by Lancashire County Council. However, given the nature of the problem, I don’t think that they had any alternatives. The work that they have undertaken is a temporary fix to stop the hole getting any bigger. I believe that if they hadn’t acted like they did, the road would have possibly collapsed causing us an even bigger and longer inconvenience. I think that we must brace ourselves for road closures later in the year when the problem is permanently fixed. We will be informed of this potential road closure in due course, and will advertise it as soon as we find out.

This year our annual Parish Gathering will take place on MONDAY 12th May, commencing at 7pm (this is one month earlier than previous years). So please put a date in your diary. This is your chance to see what we do on the Parish Council, meet the team and ask questions. Guest speakers have been found and will no doubt entertain and enlighten us on the day. As usual, it will end with wine and nibbles.

Our next meeting will be held on Monday 7th of April, 7pm in the village centre. At this time we will have our Annual General Meeting during which we will elect our officials and divi up our annual duties. This will then be followed by our normal monthly council meeting.
