Roughlee Parish Council
Oak tree, Litter picks, FORA leadership, BKV, Parish Gathering (12 May)...
I hope that many of you have noticed the newly planted Oak Tree near to the white railings and adjacent to the river. This is to celebrate the Forest of Bowland National Landscape Diamond Jubilee and has been grant funded, thanks must go to the land owners for allowing this to take place and the team that facilitated its planting. We just now need to look after it and keep it watered during this current dryish spell.
We have had a couple of ‘litter picks’ in the village during March to coincide with the Great British Spring Clean, thanks must go to the volunteers for doing their bit and to Meg for coordinating it. We do have a number of spare hoops, litter pickers and high vis vests available if any of our regular litter pickers would like one, as they makes the job much easier and safer.
Meg & Ian have done a fantastic job (thank you) over the years in leading our FORA team (Friends of Roughlee Appearance). Both have now decided it’s time to give someone else a chance and are stepping away from their leadership duties. However, I believe both will be on the sidelines to offer guidance and advice if required. With this said, we are looking for someone to take on this challenge. You don’t have to be a Parish Councillor or on the Village Centre Committee to do this, you just need some enthusiasm and a bit of spare time. If you want to find out more please give me a shout and we can discuss this. The job is not as onerous as you might think.
This leads me onto the BKV competition, we have been very successful over the last 2 or 3 years with this and given the FORA changes mentioned above, I would like to challenge and encourage you (our residents) to keep on doing your bit and adopt the public areas near to your residence, whether it’s just weeding the hedges, weeding the roadside, sweeping paths or by planting your favourite plants. “Your Village Needs You!” You never know, we might even get first place.
Please don’t forget that this year our Annual Parish Gathering will take place on MONDAY 12th May, commencing at 7pm (this is one month earlier than in previous years). Please put the date in your diary. This is your chance to see what we do on the Parish Council, meet the team and ask questions. Guest speakers have been found and will no doubt entertain and enlighten us on the day. As usual, it will end with wine and nibbles.
