St Mary’s CE Primary School
Aspirations Day, World Book Day, Sports, Tales...
The first week back after half term we enjoyed our second Aspirations Day. All of the children came to school dressed in their ‘dream job’ outfits – we had a wide selection of career choices e.g. beauticians, travel agents, farmers, archaeologists, engineers, the list goes on! During the morning of Aspirations Day we invited professionals from our community to come into school to talk to the children about their chosen careers. The children learned so much about the working world from asking questions and listening to our guests passionately describe their jobs. Thank you to everyone who participated.
Stuart Reid, an accomplished author with over 9 published books visited school. Stuart delivered a fantastic interactive assembly with the children, this included dressing up and acting out scenes from his books whilst encouraging the children to use alliteration and onomatopoeia to add detail to their own writing. The children had an amazing afternoon. Thank you again Stuart!
As a school that loves to read, we celebrated World Book Day with a book swap and sponsored read. The money raised will contribute to the purchase of some new reading books for the juniors. Thank you to everyone who kindly sponsored the children.
The children have once again been representing the school with a variety of competitions including table tennis, a swimming gala and football CVL. As always we are very proud of the children’s behaviour and the style in which they compete when representing St Mary’s. Well done everyone.
We have enjoyed working alongside Reverend Nick this half term. He has visited school to deliver a Collective Worship and on other occasions talk to the children about the eucharist and what it symbolises during a church service and walk our infants around beautiful St Mary’s church. Thank you.
So far this term the junior children have had great fun learning how to build structures in DT and in PE’s Outdoor, Adventurous Activities developing their teamwork and communication skills.
The infants have enjoyed using story language to investigate traditional tales. They have been making their own potions to make fairy tale wolves into more thoughtful characters and have built castles for giants and princesses. They have created story maps to retell and act out fairy tales and written twisted tales in their English books to ensure everybody lives happily ever after!
All in all it has been a great half term!
We hope you enjoy a peaceful Easter.
