Roughlee Parish Council

New Speed Indicator, School tiles, Planning, BKV, Village Kids...

I am pleased to announce that we were successful with our capital grant bid from Pendle Borough Council to fund the purchase of own “ all singing and dancing” solar powered speed indicator device. We will have to put a little bit of our own funds towards this purchase to ensure we get the one that we would like, final decisions on which model to be made at our July PC meeting.

The school tile project is progressing well, our Mary joined a party of the the senior pupils at the school on a foraging walk to look for ideas on what to put on the tiles. So, tick, design process started. The plan is for all of the children in the school to be involved in making tiles, with this activity probably taking place in the school playground under the canopy. We then plan to use the services of Andre Smaile to fix some of these tiles in place on the appropriate walls, we will of course have to do a bit of gardening to make these visible. So keep your eyes peeled.

We have had lots of dialogue with Pendle planning on the new caravan bases being installed just off the ridge and also on the Planning in Principle application for 3 houses adjacent to the junction at the bottom of Stang Top Lane. Rest assured please, that we have been making representations on both of these, albeit at the moment with limited progress. We are continuing with our endeavours.

The Best Kept Village judging will be taking place soon, so I would ask all, to do their bit to see if we can progress to the next stage. We are unfortunately, once again looking for a gardener to work in the village for us. This is a paid position, so if you are interested, please give us a shout so that we can have an informal chat on what the job entails.

To jump ahead a bit, we will be holding our seniors Christmas Dinner again In December, alongside of this we have been discussing whether we should try do a little bit of something for the children in the village as well, so we are trying to ascertain how many under 16’s we will have at the end of November this year. Can you help us please by letting us know.

Finally, congratulations must go to Thomas and the new Mrs Hartley (Millie) for tying the knot last weekend.

Next PC meeting Monday the 4th of August at 7pm.
