Goldshaw Booth Parish Council

New goal posts, Football Tournament & BBQ (13 Sept), Reporting crime...

We experienced classic British summer weather in July, with plenty of sunshine for outdoor activities and events, plus our fair share of rain to keep the grass (and weeds!) growing wildly.

Thanks to the funding from Barrowford and Western Parishes we were able to purchase and install the new football goal posts on the pitch at the bottom of the playing fields. They look fabulous and there has been lots of fantastic feedback about them from residents. The new 7-a-side pitch was officially opened by pupils from St Mary’s School, Newchurch, who enjoyed a football match there on Friday 18th July.

We are delighted to announce that there will be a Parish Football Tournament and BBQ on Saturday 13th September 2025, 2pm – 6pm. Teams from Spenbrook, Newchurch and Sabden Fold (adults, 16+, mixed gender) will compete for a trophy, followed by an under 16s special event and a BBQ. Players, spectators and all residents are very welcome. To get involved, sign for a team or for more information please email.

The weather was perfect for Goldshaw Booth’s annual Rushbearing ceremony, held on Saturday 12th July at St Mary’s Church. There was a good turnout for the procession, crowning of the rushbearing queen and service in the church. As one local resident commented: ‘This is a really lovely tradition – so glad it’s being kept alive!’

Following recent reports of suspicious and drug related activity in parish laybys, the police have advised that if residents have any such concerns they should report them via the Lancashire Constabulary website and not the Rural Crime site, to enable the local police to build an intelligence picture.

Finally, thank you to residents who have been helping to keep the weeds in check! It’s an ongoing battle at this time of year, but everyone’s efforts are greatly appreciated.
