Goldshaw Booth Parish Council

Football Tournament & BBQ (13 Sept), Clerk, Speeding, Recycling...

We are very much looking forward to the Goldshaw Booth Parish Football Tournament and BBQ on Saturday 13th September 2025, 2pm – 6pm, where teams from Spenbrook, Newchurch and Sabden Fold will compete for a trophy, followed by an under 16s special event and a BBQ. Players, spectators and all residents are very welcome and we are very grateful to Howard Hartley, Lancashire County Councillor and Anthony Dawson Estate Agents for their kind donations which have helped make this event possible. To get involved, sign for a team or for more information please email the Clerk.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our Clerk, Jennifer Sutcliffe on her successful completion of the Certificate in Local Council Administration. Not only does this make it possible for the Parish Council to ‘act with competence’, it also enables us to apply for the Local Council Award Scheme, which we will be working towards over the coming year.

The issue of traffic speed is still very much at the top of the Parish Council’s agenda, and PSCO Fielding will be attending our September meeting to discuss what community actions could support traffic speed calming measures, and we encourage any residents who are interested in this matter to join the meeting on Monday 8th September at 7pm.

We note that the development at Spenbrook is subject to an improvement notice which will be heard at Burnley Magistrates Court and we hope that this will help to facilitate the completion of the landscaping and other outstanding items there.

Our new recycling scheme is going well, with tablet blister packs so far being the most popular recycled item. These are taken to a dedicated recycling facility in Hyndburn. Other items which you can drop off at St Mary’s church or the toilets are light bulbs and printer cartridges, but if anyone has ideas for additional items that could be collected for recycling, please let us know.

Finally, please bear in mind that although calves in the fields behind Newchurch are older now, it is always better to avoid walking through the herd, especially if you have a dog with you. Please walk around the herd by deviating from the footpath, and please pass this simple message, which is clearly stated on the field entrances, onto others, so we can try to avoid any accidents.

Many thanks
