Roughlee Village Centre
Scarecrows, Fundraising, Graham Hill's Pendle Hill Challenge...
Scarecrow Time is nearly upon us again, sadly there has been a drop in displays, which is sad as so many people enjoy viewing them.
Please would you re-join us or be a new exhibitor and get a scary scarecrow up? If you are not on the route we can accommodate displays at the RVC, bus stops or verges without encroachment on the highway.
Displays need to be put up by 11am on Saturday morning (1st November). We will have prizes galore to the best ones. The RVCC will be running the event in a collaboration with the Bay Horse who will be holding a full weekend on Halloween-based scary fun. Details to follow about the spectacular in October issue.
The RVCC held 2 events to support Derian House children’s Hospice in 2025 and held a cheque handover with Derian’s Emma and photo opportunity for some of the team. A big thanks to all who supported us in our fundraising, which will help a number of kids and families.
We have a Macmillan event on Friday September 26th from 7pm, which includes a quiz with pie and pea supper for only £10.
Our Village Centre Treasurer, Graham Hill, is embarking on a long Pendle Hill Challenge over the coming year raising money for the North West Air Ambulance. If you could support him with a donation however small he would really appreciate it – click here for his JustGiving page, and further details below.
Don’t forget your scarecrow!

Graham Hill’s Pendle Hill Challenge
In the past few years both my Step-Daughter, Grace and Grandson, Harry have had the need of the North West Air Ambulance, one of the occasions being a potential life or death situation.
With that in mind I have set myself a challenge, in mid September I will reach the age of 67 (no this is not a request for a card and present!!!). I plan to hike to the summit of Pendle Hill 68 times in the forthcoming year. I appreciate some may think this is not a particularly big challenge, but for those that know me you will be aware I’m not in the UK for a good chunk of the year so I am looking roughly at twice a week for a year.
I have raised a JustGiving page to accept donations to help me on my way. I will be posting regular updates as the challenge progresses. If you could support me by way of a donation, however small, either at the start, during or prefer to wait until I have done all 68 that’s fine.
