Goldshaw Booth Parish Council
Football Tournament, Maintenance, Bonfire...
Many thanks to everyone who participated in and supported the Goldshaw Booth Parish Football Tournament and BBQ on Saturday 13th September. It was a fabulous turnout to watch the teams from Spenbrook, Newchurch and Sabden Fold compete under the watchful eyes of volunteers Mark (referee) and Reece (paramedic). After three close matches, Sabden Fold took the trophy, presented by Anthony Dawson of Anthony Dawson Estate Agents who kindly donated to the event. Spectators also enjoyed a children’s football match and a BBQ with Beech’s famous burgers. We had lots of lovely feedback about the event and will definitely make it an annual fixture in the calendar! Photos below.
Sabden Fold may have won the football trophy but sadly were not as lucky in the Best Kept Village competition and didn’t make it through to the final – better luck next year. Hopefully you will have noticed the redecoration of the toilet block in Newchurch – Brian Pinder has done an excellent job and will be painting the railings in Spenbrook next – thank you Brian! We have taken the decision not to repair the remaining boskin outside the toilet block as it was deemed to be too expensive, given the extent of the perished wood. The map has been re-sited and we are seeking some grant funding to get it updated and replaced next year.
With bonfire night approaching, we would be grateful if you could be mindful about saving wood for burning, but please don’t bring any wood to the playing fields until the week of the 27th October. Finally, we’ve received a report from a local bus company about one of their buses sustaining a broken windscreen when trying to navigate the parked cars and traffic at the top of Newchurch recently – please can parking through the village be as considerate as possible to allow safe passage for public transport, emergency vehicles and tractors.
