Barley Parish Council

Remembrance, Toilet Block, Whitehough, Planning...

Daylight saving time, or British Summer Time, has ended, the clocks have been moved back one hour, and we are all lamenting that it is used to be daylight at teatime and now it is not. The practice of changing the clocks started back in 1916 during World War 1 to save energy, Germany first implemented it closely followed by the UK. The annual Remembrance Service will start at 1050hrs on Sunday 9th November at the Turning Area with a short ceremony and two minutes silence at the Memorial Stone at 1100Hrs. …

We all know and recognise that this is a very emotive subject that does cause frustration, for both residents and the school. This is a subject that is taken very seriously and I cannot stress enough the efforts that the school goes to, to try to alleviate these situations. We are also exploring some different options to try to help. Police patrols are also scheduled in the coming weeks to monitor …

Rainbow fungi help to pinpoint Bowland’s ancient grasslands

Volunteers Required!

A new project in the Forest of Bowland National Landscape will see volunteers learning how to identify colourful waxcap fungi and the rare grassland habitats where they are found.

Waxcaps are an indicator of ancient, un-improved grassland and knowing where these and other grassland fungi are thriving, helps to pinpoint where these grasslands remain, so that they can be protected for the future.

These ancient grasslands are the last remnants of unspoilt habitats and home to rare plant and invertebrate species, as well as rare fungi. Because so many species-rich meadows and pastures have been lost over the years, it's now vital that remaining sites are located …

Roughlee CE Primary School

What a busy start to the school year!

We started this year by tidying our school garden with the staff, parents and children. We would like to invite the local residents to help us to tend to our garden, as it is quite a task. The school garden is always accessible so if anybody has any spare time, we would greatly appreciate any help and we will even provide refreshments!

On 23rd September, we held a really successful School Improvement Meeting. During this meeting, staff, parents and governors gathered to discuss the school’s many achievements and we conferred about how we can make our school even better. Roughlee really is one big …

Safeguarding Sunday at St Mary’s

16th November - Caring for one another and creating a safer church

Each year, churches across the country take part in Safeguarding Sunday, a special day that reminds us of something simple but deeply important — that everyone who walks through our church door should feel safe, valued, and cared for.

Here at St Mary’s, Newchurch-in-Pendle, we’ll be marking the day by taking time to reflect on what it means to be a church family that truly looks after one another. Safeguarding isn’t just a set of rules; it’s part of our calling to love and protect each other as God calls us to do.

Recognising the past, learning for the future

We know that, sadly, the Church of England …
