Roughlee CE Primary School

What a busy start to the school year!

We started this year by tidying our school garden with the staff, parents and children. We would like to invite the local residents to help us to tend to our garden, as it is quite a task. The school garden is always accessible so if anybody has any spare time, we would greatly appreciate any help and we will even provide refreshments!

On 23rd September, we held a really successful School Improvement Meeting. During this meeting, staff, parents and governors gathered to discuss the school’s many achievements and we conferred about how we can make our school even better. Roughlee really is one big family so we value everybody’s input.

This half-term, we announced who our Rotakids representatives from Year 5/6 are going to be for this year. We also had a visit from Padiham Rotary who gave all our children their Rotakids badge. Padiham Rotary talked to Year 5/6 about an appeal they were doing for coats, sweatshirts and other winter items. The children were so moved by this that they decided they needed to help the cause.

On World Mental Health Day, our Wellbeing Warriors organised a day of activities for the whole school. The children had great fun exploring a wide range of strategies to promote positive mental health and wellbeing; from 5 ways to wellbeing, cosmic yoga, mindfulness activities and meditation. They also had a special visit from Lian and Kira, who work for Future Directions Social Care and University of Manchester. They explored with the children how their brain actually works and the importance of taking care of it. Our children’s mental health is of the upmost priority at Roughlee and we look forward to our Wellbeing Warriors organising future events.

We’ve ended this half-term with Pet Week! During this week, the children learnt about a wide range of pets and animals, and the fact that God has entrusted us to be good stewards of his world and look after them. We had fun, interactive workshops from The Guide Dogs and they even brought 2 lovely guide dogs in to visit us. We also had very exciting visits from some of our children’s pets from home, one child even brought a pony to show us!

We are currently working with our parents and PCSO Fielding to ensure that everybody in school is parking and driving safely around the village. PCSO Fielding will be making regular visits to school to check that parents are not parked inappropriately and that children are wearing seatbelts and travelling in car seats.

We have lots of exciting upcoming events in the Autumn Term 2 which I’m sure will keep us very busy! Please note that our Christmas Fair is taking place on Friday 12th December 2025 from 2.15pm and you are all welcome to attend.

If you have a child/ren starting Primary School in Reception 2026, we are happy to show parents/carers around. Please contact Mr Elliott on 01282 613613 or email to make a booking. Applications for Reception 2026 must be submitted by 15th January 2026.
