Goldshaw Booth Parish Council
Budget, CCTV, Outdoor Activities...
2026 started apace for Goldshaw Booth Parish Council and as we write this, it’s incredible to think that January has already nearly passed!
The first thing in the Parish Council’s inbox was the finalising of the annual budget and we are pleased to report that the precept (the supplementary amount added to your Council Tax bill to fund essential local services and community projects) will not be increasing this year, in fact will be decreasing by 3%. This is for a number of reasons: the procurement of more cost-effective services (in particular the use of the lengthsman scheme and Pendle Borough Council mowing service) and the additional properties in the parish as the Spenbrook Mill development is inhabited.
We were saddened to hear of the burglaries that took place locally over the festive period but heartened by the police report which details the progress being made to apprehend the perpetrators and expose their networks. We are looking at funding possibilities to upgrade the five CCTV cameras we already have in place, to help ensure residents are protected.
Our lengthsman will be working in January to treat the slippery steps by the side of Sparable Wood and to secure any of the steps and flags that are loose. May we take this opportunity to thank the person/people who did an excellent job piecing back together the jigsaw of concrete flags on the playing field, over the bonfire site!
As the days lengthen and our spirits are raised by the thought of Spring, we’re looking forward to developing some outdoor wellbeing events for local residents, using a small pot of ring-fenced budget. Ideas so far include tai chi and a park run, and when asking around, people have also suggested dog shows and rounders! If you like the sound of any of these or have some other suggestions, please let us know. We’ll also be looking for volunteers to help with several projects, including the removal of the tree guards from Sparable Wood – more information to follow.
Our next meeting is on Monday 9th February, 7pm, at St Mary’s Church in Newchurch – please come along for a warm welcome and a cup of tea.
