Roughlee Parish Council

Annual Parish Gathering (14 May), Asset transfer, Caravan Park, Bird Seed...

I hope that when this message finds you, you will still be enjoying the sunshine and making the most of this lovely weather.

A reminder that our Annual Parish Gathering will take place on Thursday 14th May at 7pm in the Village Centre. We are pleased to welcome two guest speakers who will share insights into some interesting local projects. As always, the evening will conclude with light refreshments and wine. We encourage as many of you as possible to attend—this is a great opportunity to learn more about the work of the Parish Council, and perhaps even inspire someone to step forward and fill our current vacancy.

You may have seen in recent national and local news that Lancashire County Council is undergoing local government reorganisation. This involves dissolving the current two-tier system in favour of new unitary authorities, which will affect Pendle Council. As part of this process, Pendle Council has invited parishes to express interest in taking control of local assets. Given that our Village Centre is currently held on a long-term lease, we have submitted a request to take ownership of the building and site in order to help secure its future. We expect to hear the outcome by the end of May and will provide further details at the Parish Gathering.

Regarding the proposed caravan park, the planning application has been refused. However, the landowners have appealed a previous enforcement action relating to the same site. This matter will now be considered by a government inspector. Please be assured that we are continuing to represent local concerns and ensure all relevant information is taken into account.

Finally, we would like to address an issue that has been brought to our attention. It appears that large quantities of bird seed are being regularly scattered along the walls and roadway on Jinny Lane. This is raising concerns about attracting and increasing the local rat population. We kindly ask that this practice be discontinued.

Thank you for your attention, and we look forward to seeing you on the 14th.

Next meeting Monday 1st June at 7:00pm.
