Roughlee Village Centre

Outdoor Upgrades, New Club, Beer, Gin & Music Festival (5-7 June)...

The weather has turned for the better and spring is well truly here. Thanks to a Pride in Place grant procured by the Parish Council and match-funded by the RVC Committee, there are due to be some major outdoor upgrades at the village centre. These include raised beds and a beastie box which will be added in June to encourage young and old to join with nature. On the same theme smart nesting boxes and bird feeders will be installed. They are solar powered with cameras which will enable anyone to log on and watch the local birds live on phones and laptops eating and building nests and rearing chicks. This will hopefully encourage all ages to visit the site and watch our wildlife in an eco environment for everybody, with picnic benches and a secure area.

We will also be installing a boules court for children and adults to play in the area to encourage a nice family atmosphere or a competitive edge for the more serious! Anybody who is interested in starting a competitive club please contact me to perhaps play boules on a regular basis.

On the subject of clubs, we will soon be starting a weekly table tennis night on a Thursday starting in June. Thanks to great interest from our locals and just on a friendly basis for anyone interested. Start dates will be announced in next months’ edition. After asking locals what they would like to able to do at RVC, its is envisaged we will be holding an event/club every Wednesday to see needs fulfilled, the most popular being a Gardening/wildlife group, pottery, craft, chat club on alternative weeks at the village centre. Anybody who has given us feedback on our survey will be contacted shortly to see if a working team can be set up to take forward the ideas.

In April we have held a very successful Casino event that proceeded to be popular and well attended. The food provided by the Davey family was excellent; Black Jack and Roulette were the games on offer to our guests who all came in their best bib and tucker to enjoy the night. I am sure it will be repeated in the future.

We have no RVC events except a fundraiser for Macmillan on Friday 29th May this month, which will be advertised soon. Our next big event is the Beer, Gin and Music Festival on 5th, 6th and 7th June. This promises to be fantastic again. We are also holding a Royal Ascot Ladies Day in June with details to be announced soon by our special event team.
