Vicar’s Letter
Remembering the ladies
In my Christmas sermon I mentioned that Christmas 2022 was what is known as a Vicar’s Christmas because 25th December fell on a Sunday (in theory less work for the Vicar!). One of the suggestions from the excellent Roots resource that the church uses was to think about how Christmas isn’t just for Christmas. Each 25th of the month we are invited to think of an aspect of Christmas that can inspire us to do something for ourselves, the local community or the wider world.
25th March is a special day in the Christian calendar. It goes by the rather fancy title of ‘Annunciation of Our Lord to the Blessed Virgin Mary’ otherwise known as Lady Day.
You will of course have picked up that 25th March is nine months away from Christmas when we celebrate the birth of Jesus.
March does seem to be the month for remembering ladies.
8th March is International Women’s Day.
19th March is Mothering Sunday.
During March why not check out the work of the Mother’s Union here and abroad and spend some time remembering and praying for all the ladies of the world. (In case you are wondering International Men’s Day is the 19th November).
God Bless
