St Mary’s Primary Academy

Chick hatching, talks, t-shirt competition...

We have enjoyed another very busy half term, but the highlight for everyone at school was the 10 Day Chick Hatching Programme. We had a school full of very excited children watching and waiting for 10 embryo eggs in an incubator to hatch. The children learned many skills caring for the chicks afterwards – it was a very enjoyable experience for all involved.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service came into school to talk to Years 2 and 6 to discuss what to do in the event of a fire and how to develop home evacuation plans.

We enjoyed a very interesting visit from the Canals and Rivers Trust, learning about the history of the 2000 miles of navigable canals and rivers. We also importantly learned how to remain safe whilst enjoying activities involving water.

Years 5 and 6 had fun participating in the Acqua Challenge organized by the Pendle Sports Partnership, so much so they won the competition – congratulations to all involved!!

Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who attended our Easter church service. Reverend Julie and the children led a lovely service with reflective readings and prayers. The children’s wonderful Easter Gardens were very happily displayed in church.

Friends of Newchurch organised a competition to design a pattern to be printed onto a t-shirt for Mother’s Day. A winning design from each class was chosen by a resident of the village and the two lucky Mummies were presented with their t-shirt in Celebration Assembly. Thank you ladies for your continued support.
