The Real Village People
Roughlee Parish Council
New Chair, village events, Parish Gathering (3 July)...
Due to Parish Council elections, our rather belated AGM took place in mid May. As previously reported no changes were made to the make up of the Parish Council after the election. Andrew Walker stepped down from his role as chair of the PC and I was elected as his replacement. I would like to thank Andrew on behalf of the PC for his hard work over the last 7 years and for the expertise and guidance that he has brought regarding planning applications and the associated difficulties this sometimes brings. Andrew still remains as a Parish Councillor so his experience is not lost.
Our next PC meeting is on Monday 19th June, a meeting that we have brought forwards due to a number of challenging issues within the village.
The RVC hosted a very successful and excellent gathering to celebrate the crowning of King Charles, I would like to thank all of the volunteers involved with organising, setting up and running this event. The next event is the Music, Beer and Gin festival on the weekend commencing Friday 2nd June until Sunday 4th.
The village is looking resplendent, due to the hardworking volunteers of FORA and many others of whom you will have seen tirelessly working in the village, weeding, tending and picking litter to name just a few of the tasks they carry out. Well done to all involved.
Both of the above activities show just what a vibrant spirit we have in our community that is something that we should all be proud of. I never get tired of the compliments that our village gets both our neighbouring villages and those from afar.
Just a reminder that our annual Parish Gathering is taking place on Monday 3rd July, this will give me chance to introduce myself to those that don’t know me and reacquaint myself with those do. The Gathering is open to all villagers and will include a number of presentations on items of local interest followed by wine and snacks and entertainment by The Real Village People. We have arranged presentations by FORA, the Bay Horse, the Village Centre Committee, details of the village pantomime, a talk by Claire Milligan about local sheepskin and wool products and one by Mid-Pennine Arts on the Pendle Radicals; the nonconformists and radical thinkers of Pendle Hill. Come and join us for an entertaining evening.
Finally, we are still 2 councillors short to make the council complete, if you are interested give me a shout so that we can discuss this further.
