The mystery of the Trinity

Musically I’m a child of the 80s, the 1980s not the 1880s as my children have suggested. I have danced round various handbags in various towns and can still remember all the words to songs from Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet etc!! One of my favourite stars was Toyah Wilcox and her song It’s a Mystery seems appropriate for my topic this month. In church circles one of the daunting preaching tasks is the Sunday where the church celebrates Trinity Sunday. This is a day (4th June this year) where we remember the nature of God rather than a specific historical event.

The Trinity refers to …

Barley Village Hall

New helpers needed!

Barley Village Hall are looking for new helpers! We have a core team of Trustees on the Committee, but we’re looking for people to join to help out give their time if they can. This may be helping out at the fell races, helping organise a social night, or even helping with some building and maintenance work we have planned. You don’t need to become an actual Trustee of the Hall, just a volunteer who is happy to give some of their time up a few hours a month, someone who we can call on for help! If you’re interested, then we meet on the …

Goldshaw Booth Parish Council

Dear Diary, What a fabulous May we had...

BBC Radio Lancashire joined us and four fabulous little ’uns, from St. Mary’s School, on the park. We chatted about the coronation, our super new play equipment and Access-4-All pathway… the interview can be heard here (the interview starts at 2:07:55).

On the Saturday a lot of us enjoyed watching King Charles III coronation on the TV and then on Sunday we all got together for a picnic on the park! What a day! Chloe opened the Access-4-All pathway, the weather was absolutely gorgeous, there were delicious cakes, bottles of fizz, balloons, games and lots wonderful people meeting old friends and new faces. …

Roughlee Parish Council

New Chair, village events, Parish Gathering (3 July)...

Due to Parish Council elections, our rather belated AGM took place in mid May. As previously reported no changes were made to the make up of the Parish Council after the election. Andrew Walker stepped down from his role as chair of the PC and I was elected as his replacement. I would like to thank Andrew on behalf of the PC for his hard work over the last 7 years and for the expertise and guidance that he has brought regarding planning applications and the associated difficulties this sometimes brings. Andrew still remains as a Parish Councillor so his experience is not …

St Mary’s Primary Academy

Boat race, celebrations, SATS, swimming...

Life in school seems to have been very busy for everyone this month.

Children, parents and grandparents really enjoyed the Boat Race fundraising event organised by the Friends of Newchurch. We were lucky with the weather and the Cabin in Barley remained open so that children and parents could purchase ice-cream and coffees etc., which added extra sparkle to the occasion. It was a very successful event raising £547 for school resources, please can I extend a massive thank you to all involved.

Since the last edition of the Parish Newsletter, we have celebrated two very special dates with families and friends of our pupils …

72 Seasons

31 May - 5 June: The Elder Flowers

Elderflowers bloom on mass from late May as hanging sprays of small white flowers. The flowers then develop into purple elderberries in late summer. Elderflower is delicious mixed into cordials, cakes, tarts, trifles and jams. It pairs particularly well with tart fruits such as rhubarb and gooseberries. Why not try your hand at an elderflower recipe? Would this be a new venture for you, or is elder flower something that you bake, cook or create drinks from regularly?

72 Seasons is a creative project, which can encourage a deeper connection to nature and improve wellbeing at the same time. In addition to the seasons …
