Roughlee Parish Council
Parish Gathering (3 July), FORA, Blacko Bar Rd closure...
June has been another busy month for the village both in terms of social events and village issues. The first event was the Music, Beer & Gin Festival which proved to be a great success with the profits being split equally between the charities of Prostate Cancer and the British Heart Foundation. Well done and thanks to all of those involved. The second event was the Pendle Pub Walk which once again from a financial point of view was hugely successful with profits being split equally between Pendleside Hospice and our own Village Centre. However, when taking into account some of the problems this has generated to residents and our village community it has made us wonder if it is worth it. These issues have been reported back to the organisers of the event together with some useful suggestions to try to alleviate repetitions at future events should we wish to participate.
We have a number of “live” village issues currently on our radar and due to the nature of them we are slowly working our way through them to try to reach satisfactory conclusions for all parties. (It’s a bit like being a football referee in that you cannot always please everyone).
Our FORA team and many residents have been working extremely hard to get the village looking at its best for the judges of the “BKV” competition which we are currently in the middle of. One of the areas that lost us points last year was that of dogs fouling and their associated faeces. I am sorry to have to report, that despite our best efforts this is once again causing us problems. So please, calling all dog owners please do your upmost to assist us.
Most of you will have seen the devastation caused by a car running into the railings near the school. Fortunately, no one was injured, which is a blessing since the accident happened just before school ended for the day (and was non school related). The driver has been apprehended and charged by the police. LCC will be repairing the damage with a new stone wall, unfortunately, this we believe will result in a full road closure for a period of up to 6 weeks during the school holidays (09:00 on Monday 24th July to 17:00 on Friday 1st Sept). We have asked if access will be available outside of working hours, and unfortunately have been advised that the road closure will be continuous – no vehicles will be able to pass the works, although they will keep access for pedestrians.
Please remember the Parish Gathering being held from 7pm on Monday 3rd July. This is an open house for all residents to meet the teams, listen to some live music and have a glass of wine and some nibbles on us.
Finally, “no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted”
