Barley Parish Council
Playground, village maintenance, defibrillator training, balsam...
There has not been a meeting of the Parish Council in July but we have we have still been hard at work on village maintenance, projects and several business issues to deal with.
On Sunday 15th July the Barley Parish Council hosted a resident engagement session on the playground project, with snacks and juice provided. Children and parents were invited to attend at Barley village hall between 4-5 in the afternoon. They could then look over the submitted designs and give their thoughts on the proposals. We had a good attendance, and the park designs were well received by both parents and children; the seesaw was seen as a very popular addition. On behalf of the parish council, we would like to thank all the children and parents who attended, and I hope they will all agree it was a successful event. The comments given will be included when discussing the playground in the August PC meeting.
The Council had applied to Pendle Borough Council for a grant towards the playground project. In July PBC agreed to contribute £2,500 towards the upgrade of the park, and I am sure we can all agree this is fantastic news.
The village maintenance is still going strong, with both the lengths man and our gardening continuing their village maintenance duties, which have sadly been hampered by the poor weather over the last few weeks. Also, the painter has been busy painting the railings on the village hall, which now look great.
Work on the upper car park were completed by the removal of spoil by a local resident. The area was then levelled and covered in gravel, and now looks like a great addition.
Works to take down and rebuild the masonry wall adjacent to the Women’s Institute Garden on the car park are being planned for August if all goes well. This project is being led by Rod Statham with Mike Dodd supporting, a couple of stone masons and volunteers will be helping with the work and there will be some financial support from the Parish Council.
The parish council has provided defibrillator training to the staff of both the Cabin and the Pendle Inn in case of an emergency; you never know when it will be needed.
Our summer balsam bashing has been a success to date with a large area cleared on the car park and village green embankment. Hopefully the weather will improve, and we can clear more in the next few weeks. A big thank you to the residents who came down to give their support.
