Roughlee CE Primary School

Canopy, Christmas Appeal, Christmas Fair (8th Dec)...

  • Canopy
We are really pleased to have started off this half-term with our beautiful new canopy. The children and parents are extremely happy that there is now some cover from the elements so that the children can play outside at all times whilst keeping warm and dry.
  • Armistice Day
Our Junior children did a fantastic job representing our school at the Armistice Day Memorial Service by creating some beautifully poignant tributes. On Friday 10th November, we held a two minutes silence with the whole school and were really proud of the respect and empathy that the children showed.
  • Children in Need
School was full of spots and colour on Friday 17th November, as the children wore their spots with pride, in aid of Children in Need. They all looked superb! Some children even created their own wonderful spotty outfits and prizes were awarded for the most creative. We raised a ‘spotacular’ £33.30 for this fantastic cause. Thank you to all our families for their continued support and generosity.
  • Christmas Appeal
This year for Christmas, our FORS suggested that we do a ‘shoebox style’ appeal so that we can spread the joy of Christmas to families whose children would otherwise not receive a gift. They looked into several Christmas appeals that various charities run and decided that we should donate to the Christmas Present Appeal run by The Salvation Army.

To support the appeal, we have asked each family (if they can) to bring a gift (unwrapped) to school for a child in need by Friday 1st December 2023. If you would like to get involved, we are happy for you to do the same. The Salvation Army believes every child deserves a new gift for Christmas so unfortunately, they are unable to take used or second-hand items.

Please see below for some inspiration:

    • 0-3 years: dolls, teddy bears, cot mobiles, baby clothes, bath toys, CDs of suitable music and nursery rhymes, puzzles
    • 3-5: dolls and action figures, cars, lorries, DVDs and CDs (music and nursery rhymes), colouring sets, pencils, crayons, books, puzzles
    • 5-9: educational games & toys, stationery (colouring sets, pencils, crayons, school sets), CDs & family friendly DVDs, books, puzzles, wordsearch, crosswords
    • 9-12: games and toys, stationery, DVDs, books, t-shirts, hair accessories, gloves, scarves, hats
    • 13-16: books, make-up and toiletries (please try to ensure non-allergic ingredients if possible), gloves, scarves, hats, t-shirts, hair accessories and gift vouchers.

Alternatively, if you do not wish to donate a gift, you could donate via the local Salvation Army’s JustGiving Page. Any support that you can give would be much appreciated.

  • Christmas Events
This half term is always exceptionally busy and we have lots of fun events planned on the run up to Christmas. The children are currently practising their Christmas Carols ready for singing at the Senior Citizen’s Lunch on Thursday 7th December and our Christingle Service on Tuesday 19th December 2023.

Our Christmas Fair is taking place on Friday 8th December 1.30-3.30pm which you are all invited to. There will be lots of stalls to get everybody in the festive spirit and all monies raised will be spent on providing resources and school trips for our children.
