Goldshaw Booth Parish Council

A Very Happy & Healthy New Year To All!

I trust you have all had a wonderful and peaceful Christmas with your loved ones and friends as we step into the new year…

What a fabulous year 2023 has been as the Parish welcomed new residents, celebrated the King’s Coronation & summer event, welcomed Radio Lancashire to Newchurch park, and hosted the first annual pumpkin carving competition!

This is all on top of the usual shenanigans of bonfire night, gardening days, Christmas carols, lights switch on and Santa Comes to Newchurch. I’m sure you’ll agree the Events Committee have done a fantastic job and have raised even more money for Pendleside Hospice and Open Door (Colne).

The new year is also a time of reflection. In this moment of quiet we remember the residents and friends of the Parish that we have lost, they will always be loved and appreciated, and are sadly missed.

As we reflect, we also see what we could do better, how we can join with our family, friends and neighbours to support each other as individuals and as a community. With each community event more and more members of the Community come together to help organise and enjoy the day – thank you all. Do you have an idea that would benefit the Parish? Are you interested in environmental matters, community cohesion, community funding, pooling of resources, car share, community food co-op, community Garden, woodland and wildlife development, neighbour support? Everyone is welcome to bring their ideas, skills and experience forward. Together we aspire to greater things in 2024.

With the development of the St. Mary’s Church beautiful meeting space the Parish Council has come back home to the Parish for its monthly meetings. All are welcome to the meetings, the next one being on Thursday 4th January at 7.15pm, and if the above events and ideas inspire you further there are two seats available on the Parish Council. Yes it can be hard work and sometimes frustrating but it is very rewarding and ultimately worth it! If you can’t take my word for it take Kathleen’s, Kathleen has been a Parish Councillor for almost 55 years – non-stop!

Here’s to another productive New Year!
