Music, Beer & Gin Festival (7-9 June), Walking with Witches (20 July)...
The committee at Roughlee Village Centre are entering a very busy period of the year – as always we try our best to raise funds for the centre but also try to generate charitable monies. In the last 10 years this was over £30,000. In 2024 our prime charity will be DERIAN HOUSE CHILDRENS HOSPICE which has been a home from home for seriously ill babies, children, young people and families for 30 years.
The events we are running to generate funds for Derian House are the annual Beer, Gin & Music Festival on 7/8/9 June and the new Derian House Walking with Witches sponsored walk and fun afternoon on July 20th. To make these events a success it would be great to have some sponsors from local people and businesses – beer barrels can be sponsored for £60 and gin bottles £20 with all proceeds going direct to the charity. Those not able to sponsor can hopefully come along and have a drink, a bite to eat and listen to some brilliant local musicians over the 3 days.
Our new event on July 20th is a family fun day comprising of a sponsored walk with bacon butties and brews available at the village centre where you sign on followed by a 5 mile countryside walk. On the route the WI will be supporting Derian House at Barley Village hall with a ‘Pit stop’ for refreshments – including their legendry home baked scones and cakes from 11 till around 2pm. Locals not participating can show support by coming along for an hour. The circular walk of course finishes at Roughlee Village Centre with entertainment provided from 2pm till 8pm – singers, band, cloggers and childrens’ games plus BBQ and licensed bar with all profits to the charity.
