Introducing our New MP
Jonathan Hinder, MP for Pendle & Clitheroe
I am delighted to introduce myself as the newly elected MP for Pendle & Clitheroe.
You may be aware from the campaign that I grew up just around the other side of Pendle Hill, in the village of Downham, and I now live in Clitheroe. Having attended Clitheroe Grammar School, I then studied History and Politics at Oxford prior to joining the police service. I served as a police constable, sergeant and inspector in London, mostly in emergency response roles, before leaving after nine years to pursue politics.
I know that my predecessor, Andrew Stephenson, was a hard-working, popular MP, and I paid tribute to him in my acceptance speech on election night, which you can view here: Jonathan Hinder MP | Facebook
During the campaign, I promised to be an active, visible and accessible local MP, for every town, village and hamlet in this new, large constituency, and that is what I will be. I was very grateful to Daniel Goldsbrough for welcoming me to the opening of the new children’s playground in Barley on Friday 19 July, while my first post-election canvassing session was in Roughlee on Sunday 28 July. The calling of a snap election meant I could not campaign across as many villages as I had planned over the summer, so it was a real pleasure to have the chance to introduce myself to residents of these beautiful villages and I will be doing more such sessions over the summer.
I am holding my first constituency surgeries on Friday 2 August, at Primet Community Centre, Colne, 10am-12pm, and at Barnoldswick Civic Hall, 2.30-4.30pm. There is no need to book – it is first come, first served. I am in the process of hiring a small staff team, and will be opening a constituency office in Colne as soon as possible, with a smaller, second office also planned in Clitheroe.
Whether you voted for me or not, I will do my utmost to represent you in Parliament, and I look forward to meeting you on the doorstep, at one of my surgeries, or at a local event soon.
