Family Fun Day (7 Sept), Curry & Quiz Night, John Mager cycling, Vacancy...
Barley Events Committee are planning another Summer Family Fun Day on Saturday 7th September and what a day it promises to be! From 11am to 3pm, the Village Green will be transformed into a fun filled fete. This event is aimed at families, with a variety of wholesome games and activities which can be enjoyed by young and old. Activities include hook a duck, splat the rat, duck race, welly wanging and much more including craft stalls and a dog agility show. The chapel will be arranging a children’s sports day with various events.
The Cabin will be serving foods and the WI will be selling tea, cakes, and crafts.
We just need everyone to cross their fingers that the weather holds out for us, and it should be a wonderful event.
In the evening there will be a Curry & Quiz night at the Village Hall. For those that have been to the previous curry nights, you’ll remember how good they were and how fast they sold out! Tickets are limited to 75 seats! It is a great event to catch up with neighbours and if you are new to the village, it’s a great way to meet new people too!
There will be a three-course meal, provided by The Cabin, and a quiz and raffle for only £20 per ticket. As usual it’s Bring Your Own Drink!
We will be holding a raffle in the evening; tickets will be on sale at both the day and evening event. All prizes have been donated by local businesses and residents and we are very appreciative of this. The Events Committee have put a lot of effort in to organising this and it would be great if you could come along and support both events and play a part in making it a successful day! The Committee look forward to seeing you all there. To buy tickets for the Duck Race, contact Angela Hargreaves on 07967 121031 or Lorraine Goldsbrough on 07966 261520.
In July, our own John Mager from Barley Green cycled 1000 miles from Lands End to John O’ Groats taking in some great scenery, particularly up north, on the way.

John did this unsupported stopping at B&B’s and hostels each night. It took two weeks with a good mix of British weather adding to the challenge. John has raised £3500 to date for “Young Lives versus Cancer” and you can donate on JustGiving by clicking here.
Fantastic effort John and a great charity cause.
Barley New Road received a Surface Dressing treatment back in July to make the road watertight and improve skid resistance. After some lobbying of LCC the road lines which we fought for, particularly the passing places and junction parking restriction lines were all reinstated last week and we now have a good road surface and controlled parking to reduce congestion and hazards.
Lee Hunt has stood down from the PC after four years of dedicated service to the Council.
Lee has made positive contributions in debates and undertook a hands-on role in his area of expertise and many other matters. He was our expert in IT and software issues and played a key role in establishing arrangements with Park with Ease both on the car park and the turning area. Thank you for all your contributions and support Lee.
The PC is therefore looking for a new Councillor and you will find details on the notice board outside the village hall where we advertise the vacancy. Whatever skills you can bring we would be most pleased to have a chat with you. Please give me a call if you are interested and want to know more.
