Roughlee Parish Council

Best Kept Village final, Waste Bin, Fireworks...

Despite our concerns earlier in July we have got through to the final of the Best Kept Village competition alongside Brindall (near Chorley), final judging was due to take place during week commencing the 19th of August. I know that I am starting to repeat myself, but we wouldn’t be in this position if it wasn’t for the large band of Volunteers who give their time (in bags full) to keep the village looking so “special”. A big shoutout should also go out to those that have been painting and refurbishing the white railings near the river. It’s out of our hands now, but let’s keep everything crossed.

A new waste bin should be appearing soon (courtesy of PBC) near to the bus stop opposite the school. Once in place, the installation contractor will inform PBC so that it can be put onto the “emptying rota”. We just need to encourage those located nearest to the bin to use it!!

I have seen that the subject of fireworks is appearing on social media on a regular basis. This has also been raised at the Barrowford & Western Parish Council meetings. The rules around setting of Fireworks are clear, with a breach being counted as anti social behaviour. The problem for the Police is that they have to catch the offenders whilst the the offence is being committed. This you think should be easy as some of the noise that we have experiencing seems to last a long time. Resources and other more major crimes take precedence. Needless to say the authorities are very well aware of our residents thoughts.

Next meeting Monday 2nd of September at 7pm in the village centre.
