St Mary’s Newchurch

Coffee & Cake, Noticeboards, New Vicar, Safeguarding...

Just a brief update from St Mary’s this month as we have all been away.

The free hospitality events, held on one Sunday a month have proved very popular (free cake and coffee/tea, and what lovely cakes!). The next one is on Sunday 22nd September, 2.00-4.00pm.

Inside the church we have lovely new noticeboards. We still expect to have the grills in the floor by the entrance, a new noticeboard in the church porch and a replacement notice board by the gate, and an extra cabinet and shelf in the kitchen in the next few weeks and then it is all completed. It has been a long journey but we hope it has made wonderful differences to how our church can serve both God and the local community.

We enjoyed a special Lammastide service, with delicious bread made by Ruth White used in the service. Lammas celebrates the start of the harvest. We still have a harvest festival celebration on 12th October (a ceilidh at St Thomas’ Church) and 13th ( a church service) to come when we shall bid a regretful farewell to Fr Paul Payton, who will have been our incredibly hard-working interim vicar for a year.

The interviews for the new vicar have been completed and we await an announcement at any time once the final legal matters have been resolved.

Douglas Bull has taken over as our Parish Safeguarding Officer, probably until Christmas. You can find out about Safeguarding issues from him, our church notice boards, our “A Church Near You” entries or our facebook page, or any member of the PCC. We are also holding a special Safeguarding information service on 17th November.

We are starting to look forward to so many exciting events in the next few months- new vicar, harvest, concerts, Christmas preparation, and, of course, lots of cake! Do come and join us for some of them.
