Goldshaw Booth Parish Council
KELP, Moles and Projects...
At last month’s Council Meeting, we were very fortunate to have Dr Carmel Hustler from Lancashire Archives visit to explain what the Keeping East Lancashire in Pictures (KELP) project is. Unfortunately, there was only 1 member of the community there to hear her.
In essence, the project is aimed at ensuring there are digitised photographic records both from the past and the present so that we and future generations can see what the area looks like and how it has changed over time, as the collection will be available free to all on-line.
To date, there are very few pictures of the area which have been digitised. We were shown the following examples:
The Council are arranging for the photographs that we have, that were taken some years ago for our photographic exhibition, to be digitised at Nelson Library, so that they can add to the project. We would encourage everyone to take their pictures there, both past and present, so that there is a record for all to see of what the villages and the residents look and looked like.
It has come to my attention that concern has been raised about the mole traps being used in the playground. We get an annual report regarding the safety of our playgrounds and one of the recommendations was that we address the mole hills at the top of the field. As with all subjects brought to our attention, we debated the most appropriate course of action before deciding to arrange for the moles to be trapped.
It is important to remember that the Parish Council Meetings are open to all members of the community and we take seriously all concerns raised. We have for some time been asking for further volunteers to join us, so I would encourage everyone to come along either to listen to and contribute to what we are doing or to help us by joining the council. It’s only a couple of hours a month.
At the moment, we are pleased that the community is getting together volunteers to address the gardens and gardening, so it is clear that when everyone pulls together, more is achieved.
February’s Parish Council meeting be held on Monday, 10th February at 7pm in St Mary’s Church.
