Roughlee Parish Council
Precept, James Starkie Bench, Sinkhole, Parish Gathering...
At our January meeting we discussed whether we should increase our precept for the up and coming financial year starting in April, having reviewed our financial position and set our budget for next year we agreed to request an increase from Pendle Borough Council for 2.5% (roughly in line with inflation at that time), this equates to an approximate increase of £1.30 per annum to each household within the Parish.
A new bench dedicated to James Starkie has arrived in the village, thanks go to Janet and her family for sourcing and providing the bench and the extended team that prepared the base and completed the installation.
We have continued to badger United Utilities (with the help of PBC) regarding the drain outside of the pub, we think (and hope) that they might have resolved this issue as we did not have a recurrence of the problem during the big snow melt earlier in the month, so fingers crossed.
The sink hole has grown bigger during the aforementioned snow melt and Lancashire County Council responded to this almost immediately (within 24 hrs) after we had made them aware of it. Their actions resulted in the appearance of the large concrete blocks on the roadside. I can only assume that this is to temporarily protect the area from vehicles parking on it and collapsing it further, whilst plans are put in place for the permanent repair. As previously reported this is likely to be sometime this summer.
It was also pleasing to see that LCC have finally got around to replacing the damaged rails in the village.
This year our Annual Parish Gathering will take place on MONDAY 12th May, commencing at 7pm. So please put a date in your diary. This is your chance to see what we do on the Parish Council, meet the team and ask questions. Guest speakers are being sought with some already found. As usual, it will end with wine and nibbles.
When I write this article I always wonder how many of you out there actually read it, I know of a few, as I constantly get “ribbed” about my grammar and content. Please keep it up so that I know who is reading it. I was, however, extremely pleased to receive feedback from a long way overseas, by an expat reading this. So my challenge is, how many other expats out there are reading this, let’s see how far our publication goes. Please let me know.
Next meeting Monday 3rd February, 7pm in the village centre.
