Notes from St Mary’s Church

Eco Church at St Mary’s...

I am delighted to announce that, in February, St Mary’s Church achieved the Bronze Eco Church award. We have been working hard on environmental issues over the last 18 months, including collaborating on the Climate Change Action Day at St Thomas’ which had the aim of bringing the Community together to inspire action.

The Eco Church scheme is run by A Rocha, a global Christian environmental organisation. The scheme provides a framework to support practical action on caring for God’s earth.

There are 5 main aspects:

  • Worship and teaching
  • Buildings and energy
  • Land and nature
  • Community and global engagement
  • Lifestyle

We have looked to incorporate environmental awareness into worship and teaching, holding …

Goldshaw Booth Parish Council

Mowing, Football pitch, & Annual Parish Meeting (16 May)...

We have appointed Pendle Borough Council as our contractor for mowing the playground and lower field. You may notice that the bottom part of the football pitch has remained unmowed. This decision has been made to save costs, as, while the goals are used, no eleven a side matches are played on them. Subject to funding, we would like to replace the current goal posts and make the area suitable for seven a side football.

Please come and join us at the annual Parish Meeting where you can meet up with your neighbours, understand and contribute to next year’s plans, have a couple of drinks and …

Parish Gathering (Monday 12 May, 7pm), Planning application...

It only seems like two minute since I wrote our last article – I guess it must be the sunshine that we have been having, making time pass so quickly.

As you have probably already guessed with my ramblings it has been a quiet month with the exception of one “planning in principle” application for the green …

Barley Village Hall

Refurbishments, Bookings in May...

April has been a busy time at the Village Hall. We’ve now finished our lighting project which has seen the majority of the rooms have significant improvements to lighting. We’ve moved away from the old strip lights to new, modern LED lights which are much brighter, last longer, and will help reduce electricity consumption. Our next project will move to some redecoration works and new curtains / blinds for some of the rooms. We’re also in the process of scoping out much bigger works to significantly improve our toilet facilities. During April we hosted another fell race, the last until November, that raised some well …

We’re now on 800+ email subscribers across Barley, Goldshaw Booth and Roughlee so are definitely reaching the majority of households, but it’s an ongoing job to let people know when there’s no longer a physical copy being delivered and not everyone will see the adverts on noticeboards.
