Roughlee Parish Council

Parish gathering: Pendleside Hospice, Pendle Hill Museum, School Tiles, SPID...

Our Annual Parish Gathering took place on Monday 12th May, where approximately 50 of our residents turned out, and hopefully they were enlightened about what we do on the Parish Council together with the Village Centre Committee.

Leah Hooper and Sarah Holsdworth educated us on the services and support that Pendleside Hospice provide, they did this extremely well, as our system let us down, so they had to talk blindly without the assistance of PowerPoint slides. I think that everyone was impressed with their knowledge, but more importantly surprised at the vast array of services that Pendleside provide.

This was then followed by our own Simon Cronshaw talking to us about the new digital-first Pendle Museum Museum CIC and the local history that they are to trying to collate and share. At the moment the focus is on gathering memories and photos about Roughlee Boating Lake, the local tea gardens (such as at Happy Valley), Clarion House and many other leisure activities up to 1980. For further details see this article and please get in touch with hello@pendlehillmuseum.org if you have anything at all to share.

My thanks must then go to the team that provided the nibbles and refreshments to top of a successful evening.

During the evening I shared with everyone, the two projects that we are currently working on, the first being a collaboration between Roughlee School and Pendle Pottery to replace the very worn and tired tiles in the walls opposite the school. The plan is for the school children to design and make the replacements, so that we can replace the old ones and make the area look better.

The second one being the capital bid that we have put into PBC to fund a new solar powered Speed Indicating Device of our own for the village.

Best kept village judging will start to take place in June, so I would ask everyone to do their bit to try and keep the village looking pristine, to hopefully impress the judges when they visit.

Next PC meeting Monday 2nd June at 7pm.
