Roughlee Parish Council
Parish Gathering, Village Centre ownership, FORA Lead wanted...
During May we held our annual parish gathering in the village centre. It proved to be a very interesting evening, with talks from Ruth White and Tina Manning about the Repair Shop being held in Barley, currently on a monthly basis. I hadn’t realised that this is part of an international movement, aimed not only at repairs and recycling, but also at promoting the social aspects of community life.
Claire Milligan then told us about the “Lancashire Tweed” project, which aims to secure a fairer deal for local farmers for their sheep fleeces, with a view to turning them into a true Lancashire Tweed. I offered my services to model any garments on the London catwalks, but for some reason my offer was declined.
If you require any further information on either of the topics above, please let us know and we can put you in touch.
We finished the evening with excellent cheese and wine provided by some of the ladies from the village.
As I mentioned during the evening, we are still waiting for a decision on whether we can take full control and ownership of the Village Centre and the associated land from Pendle Council. We are also awaiting the outcome of the appeal against the enforcement action served by PBC regarding the caravan park development on the south side of the village.
I once again appealed for someone to take on the FORA lead role to help us keep the village shipshape, and I am pleased to report that we did receive a volunteer to undertake repairs to some of our many benches
Next meetings Mondays 1 June and 6 July, 7pm at Roughlee Village Centre.
