Pendleside Repair Café
1st Aug, Roughlee Village Centre
The Pendleside Repair Café has had a whirlwind few months, and it’s all thanks to the incredible generosity, energy and expertise of our community. It’s been so busy behind the scenes getting everything launched that we haven’t properly thanked everyone who has donated cakes, their time, their knowledge and their guidance. We’ve needed each and every one of you, and because of you, the Repair Café has already become a real success.
Our June event was buzzing with activity, with plenty of repairs being tackled by our brilliant volunteers. The feedback was heart‑warming, with many visitors saying this is exactly what our villages need. That encouragement has given us the confidence to take the next step.
We Need You! Join the Pendleside Repair Café Team
The Pendleside Repair Café is growing — and we’re now looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us take the next step. Our community has already shown incredible support, and now we’re building a small committee to keep the café running smoothly each month.
If you’ve ever thought about getting more involved in village life, meeting new people, or helping reduce waste, this could be a perfect fit.
We’re currently looking for volunteers for the following roles:
Committee Chair — Chairs meetings, sets agendas, guides decisions and provides overall vision. This role could be shared by two Co‑Chairs.
Committee Secretary — Responsible for preparing and distributing agendas, taking minutes at meetings, circulating them to committee members, and maintaining records and files.
Treasurer — Handles the financial aspects of the Repair Café, including banking donations, managing the bank account, and providing simple financial reports to the committee.
Event Coordinator — Oversees the operational side of each event, working closely with the volunteer team leads (Café Team, Repairers Team, Reception & Welcome Team) and the Health & Safety Officer to ensure each Repair Café runs smoothly. This role could also be shared between two people.
Friends of the Earth Liaison — Acts as the main point of contact with Friends of the Earth and ensures that the Repair Café remains compliant with its obligations and requirements.
Publicity Officer — Coordinates social media, press releases, posters, leaflets and other promotional materials. Additional support could be provided for drafting publicity content if required.
Health & Safety Officer — Carries out risk assessments and helps ensure that events operate safely for both volunteers and visitors. This role also ensures that a PAT tester is available whenever electrical repairs are offered.
If you think you might be interested and you’d like to find out more (with no pressure to commit), please get in touch by emailing or sending a WhatsApp message to the Pendleside Repair Cafe.
Next Repair Café
Our next Pendleside Repair Café will take place on 1st August at Roughlee Village Hall, due to Barley Chapel undergoing roofing work over the summer.
Thank you again for all your support. We’re excited to see the Repair Café grow, develop and continue bringing our community together. We look forward to seeing you in August!
