Info Boards, Sub-station, Gardens, Speeding, Football Tournament (12 Sept)...
We were pleased to be joined by County Councillor Howard Hartley and Borough Councillor Martyn Stone at our meeting in July, and to discuss amongst other things, Local Government Reorganisation and our grant application for new information boards in each of the three villages. This project is still in the content gathering stage and if anyone has any photographs of the villages which they think might be useful for the boards, please email them to clerk@goldshawbooth-pc.gov.uk. A new project underway is a tree-planting scheme, in conjunction with the pupils at St Mary’s School – more information to follow.
A couple of notable successes to report on, both of which have been a long time in the making. The first is that the electricity sub-station at the Spenbrook Mill development has finally been screened off in a way that hugely improves the aesthetics of the area, as well as increasing the safety of the site. Secondly, after some 18 months of requests, United Utilities were finally persuaded to replace the galvanised railings around the filter house at the top of Newchurch with green ones – far more in keeping with our area of outstanding natural beauty.
The village gardens and communal areas are looking lovely thanks to the efforts of residents, our new gardener Scott and the Pendle Borough Council mowing team. If you are able to spare a little time to help with watering plants – we’d be most grateful! Our picturesque landscape is blighted by occasional fly tipping and, increasingly common, nitrous oxide cylinder disposal – we have flagged this up with PSCO Fielding to look at what local initiatives could be considered to try and combat this.
Vehicle speeding remains a pressing issue and so we have resolved to purchase a Speed Indicator Device (SPID) if we can secure grant funding. The application will benefit from community consultation and so a very brief questionnaire (just two questions!) will be coming through your door in August and we encourage you to return completed questionnaires to the envelopes pinned up inside the village notice boards.
If you’ve been inspired by the World Cup, remember we have our own Football Tournament and BBQ on Saturday 12th September, when teams from the three villages will compete to see if Sabden Fold can retain the title. Everyone is welcome to spectate, it’s a great afternoon, and if you’d like to play, just email clerk@goldshawbooth-pc.gov.uk. If football isn’t your thing, you can still enjoy the football pitch by taking part in the FREE tai chi sessions on Sunday 2nd August and 6th September at 11-12noon.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to Maureen and Adrian from Witches Galore for their recent financial contribution to the ongoing upkeep of the village toilets.
