Pendleside Repair Café Pops Up at Roughlee Village Centre – Repairs, Cakes & Pétanque!

The Pendleside Repair Café may be temporarily relocated while essential works continue at the Chapel, but the energy, enthusiasm and neighbourly spirit behind it are stronger than ever. This month, the Repair Café will be held at Roughlee Village Hall, running from 10.30am to 1.30pm, and promises to be one of our most vibrant sessions yet.
Our talented volunteer repairers will be on hand to tackle a wide range of fixes, helping to keep treasured items in use and out of landfill. This month’s team includes:
- Woodwork repairs — chairs, frames, small furniture
- Textile mending — clothing repairs
- Welding fixes — metal brackets, tools and household items
- Electrical & IT troubleshooting — small appliances, gadgets and tech
- Toy repairs — giving children’s favourites a new lease of life
- Garden tool sharpening — shears and secateurs
The Repair Café is more than a place to fix things — it’s a celebration of shared skills, sustainability and community connection. Every repair is a small act of care, and every conversation is a chance to learn something new.
No Repair Café would be complete without the delicious treats from our refreshment team. Expect homemade cakes, hot drinks and the warm welcome that has become a hallmark of our sessions. Whether you come with an item to repair or simply to enjoy the atmosphere, you’ll be greeted with friendly faces and something tasty.
Roughlee Village Hall is buzzing with excitement as the village has opened its brand‑new boules court. To celebrate, this month’s Repair Café will also offer free pétanque lessons, giving everyone the chance to try this wonderfully sociable and surprisingly addictive game.
It’s easy to learn, fun to play, and a brilliant way to bring people together. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone who’s played on holiday, come along and give it a go.
The Repair Café continues to grow, but we are still looking for new volunteers to join our friendly management team, we would love to hear from you. Being part of the Repair Café is rewarding, sociable and a great way to support our villages.
The temporary move to Roughlee Village Hall is a wonderful reminder of how closely our communities work together — Barley, Roughlee and Newchurch supporting one another, sharing spaces and keeping valued activities running even during building works. Bring your items, bring your curiosity, and bring your enthusiasm. Together, we repair, learn and play.
