Progress Update at Barley Chapel
Further Repairs & New Dates for Your Diary
Work at Barley Chapel has continued steadily, and we are pleased to confirm that the initial areas of dry rot have now been successfully treated. This was an important milestone in securing the Chapel Hall for future community use.
However, as the contractors progressed, further patches of dry rot were discovered in additional members. Although unexpected, this is a common challenge in older village buildings. The team acted quickly to remove the affected wood, apply specialist treatments, and replace the compromised sections. Thanks to this swift action, the spread has been stopped and the structure is now safe and sound. We will have obviously more work to do in the future but for now the hall is ready to be used again.
With the repair work complete, the Chapel Hall is quite understandably in need of a good clean so that we can get the hall ready for re-opening. We are once again calling on the wonderful community spirit that we have in Barley, to come and help us on Saturday 8th August from 11am onwards to clean and tidy the hall. Even a short amount of 2me will make a big difference so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Important Dates for Your Diary
- Return of the Repair Café – Saturday 5th September – The Repair Café returns, continuing to bring together practical skills, community spirit and a shared commitment to reducing waste
- Monthly Sunday Service – Sunday 6th September – This service will be led by our new Minister for Barley, Rev Stephen Donnins please come and say hello and show him how much having the Chapel in Barley means to us all
- Indoor Car Boot – Third Saturday in September – This is a new venture and we are hoping it will become a regular monthly event
