Join members of the North West Fungus Group for this early autumn foray in the grounds of Browsholme Hall.

Suitable for anyone with an interest in natural history – no previous knowledge of the fungal kingdom needed.  Please note that we will not be collecting fungi during this event.

Under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult.

Approximately 1.5 miles. Walking will be on a mix of surfaced tracks, woodland paths and grass. Paths may be uneven and muddy in places.

Join us for this popular, annual lecture, highlighting Bowland’s fascinating heritage. 

This year’s lecture will be delivered by Susan Harrison, Curator of Collections with English Heritage. Susan’s talk will spotlight Sawley Abbey, a Cistercian Abbey founded  in 1146, including its history and archaeological finds.

Once again, the lecture will take place in the lovely surroundings of the Tithe Barn at Browsholme Hall and all proceeds will go to support local charities, Slaidburn Archive and Champion Bowland.

Wycoller Country Park

The UK is globally important for waxcap fungi, and the beautiful, pink ballerina waxcap is a particularly striking example!

Waxcaps and other grassland fungi can help to indicate the presence of ancient meadows and species-rich grasslands, providing the opportunity for these rare habitats to be protected into the future.

Join us at Wycoller Country Park near Colne to learn about the importance of grassland fungi, site management and identification features.

During the day, we’ll focus on how to use Plantlife’s Waxcap Watch App to survey and record Bowland’s waxcaps – no existing fungi ID skills needed!

Ballerina waxcaps are one of the 14 Champion Species at the heart of the Forest of Bowland National Landscape’s Nature Recovery Plan. Join us to find out more about these fascinating fungi and the chance to take home a special Champion Species goodie bag.
