Benches, Defib training (22 Sept), Planning
It seems everyone has been making the most of the superb August weather, as there’s not a great deal to report this month. The benches at the bus stop opposite the pub have been taken away for refurbishing. What looked like a simple job turned out to be quite the workout for the removal team—each bench weighed around 100kg, and the chaps involved were not exactly in their twenties. With luck, by the time you read this, they’ll have recovered, hit the gym, and returned the benches to their rightful place. A big thank‑you to Peter Sulway for carrying out the refurbishment work.
There will be resuscitation and defibrillator training at 3.30pm on Tuesday 22nd September at Roughlee Village Centre. It’s recommended that training is repeated every 2 years – so why not join us to learn or freshen up your lifesaving skills. Please get in touch with Meg Davey to book your place.
On the planning front, things remain relatively quiet while we await decisions on the two outstanding applications and the appeal relating to enforcement at the caravan park. As mentioned last month, we have requested that the application for the field opposite Straitgate Cottages be discussed publicly at a Barrowford and Western Parishes Committee meeting. We don’t yet have confirmation of the date, but we expect it to be Wednesday 9 September at Holmefield House, Barrowford. Residents who wish to support or contest the application may speak at the meeting, but they must request permission from PBC at least 24 hours beforehand, and will have a maximum of five minutes to speak. We should have the confirmed date and time around 2 September, so anyone wanting certainty should contact our clerk at roughleeclerk591@gmail.com, or keep an eye on the PBC planning website.
