Sept 2026 Services
Over the next few weeks life at St Mary’s Church becomes a bit busier after what we hoped was a lovely summer for you all. We have some great events coming up which we hope will be enjoyable for the whole community.
To celebrate the closing days of summer we have a Heritage Day on Saturday 12th telling the story of our church with Geoff Forsett. In the evening we will be having a Last Night of the Proms concert with Bishop Joe Kennedy joining us. On Sunday 13th we will have a Celebration Service to give thanks for the life of our church and our community followed by a Jacob’s Join lunch. Whether you regularly visit our church and services or only visit from time to time, we do hope you will join us for this weekend of events.
We start a series in our main services following the biblical story of the Exodus. As Christopher Nolan’s ‘Odessey’ continues in cinemas this biblical story of an epic journey with all its difficulties provides us with a narrative in which we can identify with many thousands of years later and offers hope and purpose for our lives.
Lastly on the 20th of September at 6pm a traditional service of Sung Evensong. It’s a beautiful service for quiet reflection.

6th September 9:30am Morning Worship
12th September 11am-4pm Heritage Day
An opportunity to explore the history of our church from foundation to our time and its place in our community.
7pm Last Night of the Proms (Pimm’s with Hymns)
A mixture of our favorite hymns and stories about why we love them alongside the usual jingoism and an opportunity to hear our organ with all the stops taken out. All served with Pimm’s (other drinks available) and snacks
13th September 10:30am St Mary’s Church Celebration Service (Communion)
20th September 6pm Evensong with the Deanery Choir – with refreshments after the service. This is an opportunity to experience a service that is mainly found in cathedrals.
27th September 9:30am Communion Service – Great is thy faithfulness
