Barley Parish Council
Turning Circle, LGR, Pendle Inn wall, Quiz & Curry night (14 Nov)...
The PC’s planned improvement works on the Turning Area to reduce standing water after rainfall has taken a step forward with the appointment of a contractor. The work will include drainage, relaying stone setts, and macadam resurfacing at the access bridge which will improve the appearance of the area.
Construction drawings, supporting documents and the tender process are now complete leading to the appointment of a local contractor, Hendon Civils Ltd, from Burnley. The works, as shown below in the design drawing, are programmed to start mid-October and last three weeks.

From the above drawing you can see that two gullies will be installed at low spots with associated drainage pipes; and the shaded areas are where existing stone setts will be adjusted in level. Pendle BC will be part funding the project. More information will be provided for residents nearer the start date.
You might have heard that the Government has this month announced a review of its local government reorganisation programme in Lancashire to make sure the process is robust, legally sound and aligned with its priorities. At present, there is no set timetable for the review although it has been described as ‘rapid’. Notably, local elections in 2027 will go ahead on existing Council boundaries (and not on the boundaries of the proposed new Unitary Councils). This means the future is uncertain, and until a final decision is made, many things will be left hanging. Let us hope this will urge the government to conclude the review promptly and provide clarity for councils and communities.
You might have noticed that part of the boundary wall outside the Pendle Inn had partially collapsed creating a hazard for residents and motorists and an unsightly image of the village centre. The Council brought the matter to the attention of the pub, and we were pleased that the new manager responded promptly to arrange a repair.
Finally, I would encourage as many residents as possible to attend the Village Hall Quiz and Curry night on 14 November. It is always a good night and a great fundraiser for the Village Hall.
