Turning Circle, LGR, Pendle Inn wall, Quiz & Curry night (14 Nov)...

The PC’s planned improvement works on the Turning Area to reduce standing water after rainfall has taken a step forward with the appointment of a contractor. The work will include drainage, relaying stone setts, and macadam resurfacing at the access bridge which will improve the appearance of the area.

Construction drawings, supporting documents and the tender process are now complete leading to the appointment of a local contractor, Hendon Civils Ltd, from Burnley. The works, as shown below in the design drawing, are programmed to start mid-October and last three weeks.

Goldshaw Booth Parish Council

Football Tournament, Bonfire (5 Nov), Speeding Survey, Neighbourhood Watch, Info Boards...

A fabulous afternoon was enjoyed by all at the Annual Goldshaw Booth Football Tournament. The rain largely held off and a good crowd watched four nail-biting matches which saw Sabden Fold successfully defend their title to be crowned the 2026 Champions! Our volunteer catering team did a great job with the BBQ, courtesy of event sponsor Anthony Dawson Estates, and we would like to thank everyone who organised, supported and participated in the event.

This rounded off our series of Spring and Summer community wellbeing events for this year, which included Jog in the Park and Tai Chi and we are now …

Roughlee Village Centre

Village Centre upgrades, Día de los Muertos (7 Nov), Halloween, Christmas...

The autumn has arrived and the village centre outside area is looking revitalised. The green area now contains a boules court, bug house, communal raised planters and also birds nest and feeders with solar-powered online cameras. The area is a nature zone which is a great addition to the village which hopefully the school will use regularly, and it is hoped people come down anytime to use the facility. The Parish Council believes now that we have a bird sanctuary and children’s garden area, a new fence and gate was required to give the school and families a secure feel when visiting. No dogs will …

Notes from St Mary’s

October...

Fifteen to twenty years after Jesus rose from the dead a church was founded in a city called Colossae. The city was around 100 miles inland from what we now know as the southern Turkish coast. It was a Greco-Roman city and a major trade route and crossroads for Asia and Europe. It was a new city founded on a crossroads and there a church was established. It was a city that was not only on a trading crossroads but a cultural crossroad. To the east, Asia, to the west, Rome, to the north, barbarian lands, to the south and east, Persia.
