Goldshaw Booth Parish Council

Football Tournament, Bonfire (5 Nov), Speeding Survey, Neighbourhood Watch, Info Boards...

A fabulous afternoon was enjoyed by all at the Annual Goldshaw Booth Football Tournament. The rain largely held off and a good crowd watched four nail-biting matches which saw Sabden Fold successfully defend their title to be crowned the 2026 Champions! Our volunteer catering team did a great job with the BBQ, courtesy of event sponsor Anthony Dawson Estates, and we would like to thank everyone who organised, supported and participated in the event.

This rounded off our series of Spring and Summer community wellbeing events for this year, which included Jog in the Park and Tai Chi and we are now looking at activities for next year, under the theme of ‘Community Spirit’, so please do get in touch if you have any ideas.

Looking ahead to Autumn and Winter, we are pleased to announce that we will be providing hot suppers at both the GBPC Bonfire on Thursday 5th November and at the Christmas Light Extravaganza Switch-on and Santa’s Grotto on Saturday 5th December, thanks to the ever-popular Debs Mousley! Councillor Frank Shiers is holding a history event: ‘One Hundred Years of Goldshaw Booth – 1837- 1937’ at St Mary’s Church – date to be confirmed.

We would be grateful if residents could provide wood for the bonfire which can be dropped off on the playing field from 22nd October. Please take wood down to the bonfire area if you can, or leave it to the side of the track so as not to block the playing field gate and access to the site.

We had a total of 72 responses to our speeding survey and an overwhelming 97% of residents are concerned or very concerned about the speed of vehicles passing through the parish and therefore, we have submitted a grant funding application to purchase a SPID device.

GBPC’s Chair and Vice Chair accepted an invitation to visit Pendle Police Station in September and were proud to be the first parish council to be given a tour of the new state of the art police facility and to get a first-hand insight into the operation there.

The visit included productive talks with PCSO Alan Fielding who spoke of speeding and anti-social driving being a top priority in Pendle. He was keen for us to make residents aware that any such concerns should be reported on the Lancashire Road Safety website at: Speed Concern – Lancashire Road Safety Partnership or by telephoning 101. There is also a Pendle Community Road Speed Watch Group planned, incorporating resident hand-held speed camera training – please contact clerk@goldshawbooth-pc.org.uk if you would like to be involved in this.

Finally, PCSO Fielding spoke of the effective partnership between the police and the newly established Neighbourhood Watch Group in Fence – is this something we would like to replicate in Goldshaw Booth? Please let us know.

Work is continuing with the development of our new village information boards and gateway welcome signs – we hope to share initial designs at the next meeting which is being held at St Mary’s Church at 7pm on Monday 12th October – please come along!
