Goldshaw Booth Parish Council

Bonfire (5 Nov), SPID, Police meeting, Playground, New Signs...

As the clocks go back and autumn sets in, we look forward to some warming community spirit at the Goldshaw Booth Parish Council bonfire and pie and pea supper on Thursday 5th November and the Christmas Light Extravaganza Switch-on and Santa’s Grotto with hot turkey sandwiches on Saturday 5th December. Both events are free for local residents but donations on the night would be most welcome to cover the cost of the food. We would also be very grateful for donations of tombola prizes which can be dropped off at St Mary’s Church.

Our ambition to purchase a SPID device by applying for grant funding has so far been unsuccessful, but on a more positive note we are delighted to have been awarded grant funding by the Harold and Alice Bridges Charitable Trust, to cover the cost of purchasing a new picnic bench for outside the toilets in Newchurch and would like to take this opportunity to thank the Trust for their generosity.

We would also like to thank Roughlee Parish Council for their hard work and persistence which has resulted in temporary ice signs being permitted on Jinny Lane. Thanks also to local resident Andy Cowell who has agreed to look after the sign and put it up when conditions require.

PCSO Alan Fielding will be attending St Mary’s Church on Sunday 17th January 2027 between 2 and 4pm, to meet with the community and discuss your concerns and ideas. Tea and cakes will be served and again, all local residents are welcome to come along.

We are pleased that in the recent playground inspection report, only minor risks were identified with none requiring immediate attention, although we continue to monitor the wooden stepping posts on the lower playing field, removing rotten ones as necessary. The moss on the Spenbrook to Newchurch footpath is being removed by contractors over the next couple of months, to reduce any slip hazard and limit the further deterioration of the tarmac.

Our new village information boards and gateway welcome signs for the three villages are taking shape – to view the latest designs, please come to our next meeting which is being held at St Mary’s Church at 7pm on Monday 9th November.
